LET’S GO FISHING JANUARY 18, 2017 - January 18, 2017

JANUARY 18, 2017
LET'S GO FISHING
DELTA
The Delta is completely blown out with high turbid water loaded with floating debris, including large trees. With chocolate brown waters the only fishing going on is for sturgeon if you can find a spot where you can safely anchor your vessel, especially the swift tidal currents. Boaters are advised to be mindful of wakes that could damage the severely water soaked levees throughout the Delta. Presently, water releases are taking place in the Yolo and Sutter bypasses and water releases have been increased out of Folsom Lake from 35,00 CFS to 60,000 CFS. The better option is for you to stay off the water and let things settle down..
 AMADOR LAKE
Inflows have caused overflowing at the spillway. Last week the entry gate was closed due to water on the roadway. Before venturing to Lake Amador you are advised to call the marina at (209) 274-4739 to check on conditions. Presently the bestt trout action is good using Power Bait even though the water is off-colored. Trout plants are conducted weekly including some trophy sized fish exceeding 10 pounds in weight.
CAMANCHE LAKE
Water being released from Pardee Dam has caused Comanche Lake to increase to 64% capacity for flood control, with major releases into the Mokelumne River. Last week 2250 pounds of trout was split evenly between the North and South Shore marinas and the Trout Pond. Rainbows to 5 pounds logged, mainly on Power Bait or by trollers pulling Needlefish, Excels and Rapala lures. Large crappie continue to respond to grubs pulled 1.3 mph along the shoreline. This has become the best crappie bite in the entire north state.
LOS VAQUEROS RESERVOIR
Weekly trout plants continue and the shoreline fishing is good with garlic scented Power Bait at South Cove and past the rock wall.Trollers run Rapalas in Cowboy and Peninsula Coves for trout and an occasional bonus striped bass. Winter hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with rental boats due back to the marina by 3:00 p.m.
OCEAN
Rough weather and sea conditions keep most off the water. Not much happening anyway with the salmon and rockfish seasons closed.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY
The bay is now chocolate brown with plenty of fresh water run-off along with nutrients good for sturgeon. The sturgeon fishing is good from the Pump House to the mouth of the Petaluma River. Multiple fish being hooked at the same time, the bite is that good, Reports Keith Fraser at Loch Lomond Live Bait in San Rafael.
CHECK WEATHER CONDITIONS BEFORE VENTURING OUT INTO THE BIG WATERS.
STAY SAFE TO FISH ANOTHER DAY.  UNTIL NEXT TIDE GOOD FISHING.
JAY’S BEST BETS
