Fishing Report March 1,2017 - February 22, 2017

March 1, 2017
LET'S GO FISHING
DELTA
The Delta waterways are rain swollen and the Delta levees are in serious condition. You are advised to show some consideration and common sense, and stay off the water. If you feel the urge to wet a line, drive to an area that is safe and fish from the shoreline or if trailering a boat launch it further west such as the Pittsburg area to avoid causing a breach in the levee system caused by the wake of your vessel. In fact the only fish going on is the sturgeon bite in Suisun bay and San Pablo Bay. Another option is to drive over to the Antioch Public Fishing Pier and toss shad or mud suckers for an occasional striped bass in the 20 to 22 inch category.
SAN PABLO BAY
Keith Fraser at Loch Lomond Live Bait in San Rafael reports the bite is damn good for sturgeon. The water conditions resemble chocolate milk and waters are void of the bait stealing sharks rays, kingfish and midget crabs. Keith stated “we are the only bait shop carrying live mud and ghost shrimp”. The bay is loaded with sturgeon showing the best numbers in years. The sturgeon are holding in fairly shallow water throughout the bay with both the incoming and outgoing tides providing plenty of action. The best baits include herring filets, salmon roe, pile worms, ghost and mud shrimp and lamprey eel strips. The striped bass fishing has been pretty good for fish in the 3 to 8 pound category mainly on shrimp baits and mudsuckers. For more information call Keith Fraser at (415)456-0321.
LOS VAQUEROS RESERVOIR
The water clarity is fair and allows some good bait dunking for trout, striped bass and catfish. With weekly stocking of quality rainbow trout, the bite along the south side above and below the marina is best.
LAKE  CAMANCHE
You are advised to call ahead to check if both boat launch ing ramps are working. The most reliable is the north Shore facility. trollers connect with rainbows to 5 pounds by dragging Cripple Lures and Speedy Shiners in the top 10 feet of water. Because of so much floatingg debris, the more successful trollers are using down riggers which allows the wire line to catch the debris . The lake’s water level is now at 93 percent of capacity.
PARDEE LAKE
Pardee Lake opened on Friday, february 17 for the long season that extends to november 5. Recent trout plants total 12,400 pounds of trout averaging 1 1/2 pounds per fish.  Shoreline anglers doing the best at launch ramp area tossing Power Worms, Power bait, along with blue and silver  Kastmaster lures. Concessionaires plan on at least 3,000 pounds of trout per week through early June.
TAKE TIME TO GO OUT AND ENJOY THE GREAT OUTDOORS. TO STAY SAFE TO FISH ANOTHER DAY BE SURE TO CHECK WEATHER CONDITIONS BEFORE VENTURING OUT INTO THE BIG WATERS . UNTIL NEXT TIDE .
