FEBRUARY 15, 2017 LET’S GO FISHING - February 10, 2017

FEBRUARY 15, 2017
LET'S GO FISHING
DELTA
When weather conditions permit, the only thing going on out on the Delta waterways is the excellent sturgeon fishing on the Sacramento River and further downstream into the Suisun and Grizzly Bay area. You are advised to be aware of the extremely high water flowing through the system and boaters should use caution when plying the Delta and Bay waters to avoid running into trees and other heavy debris on and just under the surface. The water is roily and a soupy brown loaded with nutrients making it ideal for sturgeon fishing. You are advised to anchor your boat out of the tidal flows and fish less turbulent water and dunk either eel strips, ghost shrimp, pile worms and blood worms or a combination of several baits. The only striped bass action recently has been a few 22 inches taken off the Antioch Public Fishing Pier on shad and mud suckers. Just a reminder for those fishing for sturgeon that a new 2017 Sturgeon Report Card must be in your possession prior to your next fishing adventure.
SAN PABLO BAY
The sturgeon action is centered around the “sturgeon triangle” dunking ghost shrimp, mud shrimp and lamprey eel off China Camp State beach, the Pumphouse and Buoy 5 off Point Pinole. As of late the bite has been spotty because of high tides and violent winds. Presently there is major herring spawn taking place in San Francisco Bay and sturgeon fishermen are advised that during this event there is a closure on sturgeon fishing at the following locations. Sturgeon may not be taken in the following described area between January 1 and March 15; That portion of San Francisco Bay included within the following boundaries: Direct line between Point Chauncy (National Marine Fisheries Laboratory) and Point Richmond, the San Francisco-Oakland bay bridge and a direct line between Point Lobos and Point Bonita.
OCEAN
The only charters heading into ocean waters are in Bodega Bay where a few are running out for sand dabs and some Dungeness crab pot pulling where limits of crab and dabs are the rule. You are advised to call ahead to check on weather conditions.
AMADOR LAKE
Water is starting to clear with shoreline fishermen finding the best action with the top 5 feet of the surface in close to the shore for quality trout. The best baits include trout dough bait with garlic, Power Eggs or night crawlers are working best. The concessionaires have dropped the fishing fee from $9.00 to $7.00. Camping reservations start Friday, February 10 at 8:00 a.m. The Annual Tagged Trout Derby continues until March 19, 2017.
LAKE  CAMANCHE
Lake Camanche remains the top lake for Northern California bass and trout fishermen. This past week another 1200 pounds of Mt. Lassen Hatchery rainbows were split between the North Shore and the South Shore Fishing Ponds.
TAKE TIME TO ENJOY THE GREAT OUTDOORS. UNTIL NEXT TIDE STAY SAFE .
