Pittsburg area, Suisun Bay at the Mothball Fleet, Grizzly Bay and
So when was the peak of fall striper fishing in the West Delta would you guess?
Based on the amount of boats we launched in the month of November I would have to say around November 15th was the start of the peak of striper fishing which lasted until about the first week of December based on the guys I spoke with that were willing to talk at the time.
Well, the 69th Annual Bass Derby is now history and congrats go out to the lucky winners, Andy Douens of Oakley who caught a 291” striped bass, the exact target length , to claim the $1000 first prize followed by Michael Allen of Antioch who hooked a 47.96” sturgeon to claim a prize of $500 and Donald Jefferies of Colfax who claimed $500 for the largest salmon at 23 1/4 pounds.
Striped bass fishing has slowed down with most heading downstream into the salty waters of the bay. Presently, there are a good number of undersized fish in the system, up to an occasional 20 to 24 inches in the mix for those willing to put in the time.The big fish of the week was a rare 20 pounder taken on bait off Decker Island.
